My Lashes
Okay so picking a mascara is a tough thing. It all comes down to the quality of the mascara and your lashes. I have very fine, blond lashes that are long. So I can't go for clumpy formulations or else...it's a hot mess. Photo on the right is my bare lashes (if you can even see them :P). I've tried to break this up by brand so it's easier for you guys to check back on. Enjoy! |
Physicians Formula
Sexy Booster Mascara
Where to buy: Shoppers Drug Mart, Wal-Mart, Target etc...
I was a little bit surprised by this product. I don't usually like the plastic wands, nor am I a "drugstore brand" kind of girl. However I really loved how this made my lashes feel and look. It did take a good few coats to build the volume that I wanted, but overall I was really impressed with the quality and look of this mascara.
Organic Wear Mascara "CC Cur
l+Care"Where to buy: Shoppers Drug Mart, Wal-Mart, Target etc...
This mascara is clinging on to the "BB,CC" trend by calling itself a CC mascara. Really Curl and Care being it's "CC". CC is supposed to be Colour Correction, so I don't love the gimmick aspect to this. Overall the mascara turned out almost grey and I didn't love how it made my lashes look. This would be something I would pass on in my books.
Clinique
High Lengths Mascara
Where to buy: Select Shoppers Drug Marts & clinique.com
This wand is one of the creepiest looking things, it also in general is a horrid mascara. I did all of these swatches without curling my lashes first though. It does give great length but NO curl. You would need to have curled or curly lashes for this to really benefit you. It however does work to get tiny lashes, which is a plus.
Lash Doubling Mascara
Where to Buy: Select Shoppers Drug Marts & clinique.com
This used to be my favourite mascara from Clinique, it still is a good mascara. It really is your basic though. It does give good length and minimal volume. Leaves your lashes soft and natural looking. It does have good lasting power. I have used to waterproof formula when I was on vacation in Cuba and it stayed on even after swimming in the ocean, which was impressive.
High Impact Mascara
Where to Buy: Select Shoppers Drug Marts & clinique.com
This has recently become my favourite Clinique mascara. I love that it is really dark and gives me great volume and density to my lashes, with length as to not make them look "stubby". I don't know if they have reformulated this, or my lashes have changed over the years because I used to hate this mascara because it made my lashes look like spiders in the past. Oh well! It works great now :)
Bobbi Brown
No Smudge Mascara
Where to Buy: bobbibrowncosmetics.com & In-store at Sephora and Murale
Bobbi Brown honestly doesn't get enough love for her mascaras. They are some of the best that I have tried, and I always find myself reaching for them. Funny enough the brush for this particular one is identical to the High Impact Mascara from Clinique (they are both owned by Estee Lauder, so I don't find this to be a coincidence hehe). The formulation is totally difference though. It gives me definition and length with a hint of volume. It lasts reallly well, almost to the point of being hard to take off, but still worth it.
Intensifying Long Wear Mascara
Where to Buy: bobbibrowncosmetics.com & In-store at Sephora and Murale
Another really nice natural mascara. It picks up every little lash with it's teeny tiny brush. Not really any volume but great for short lashes that just want a kick of length.
Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara
Where to Buy: bobbibrowncosmetics.com & In-store at Sephora and Murale
This is the most voluminous of the three that I have. It gives good separation, not a lot of length (surprising considering the name). It really deposits a lot of colour at the root of the lashes, giving a thickening affect to the lashes.
Maybelline New York
Mega Plush Mascara
Where to Buy: Shoppers Drug Mart, Wal-Mart, Target etc...
This was going to be my favourite pick for "drugstore" mascara, but I think that the one from Physicians Formula might have won my heart over. I have a love hate for this brush. I enjoy the actual brush, but the flex handle...horrid...just a bad idea. It makes the brush feel so flimsy, honestly if you want to have your wire mascara brush to bend...just bend it in the tube to create your own bend. Just my two sense. Overall it gives a great dark lash, without having to apply a lot of coats. Good volume and thickness too.
Smashbox
Full Exposure Mascara
Where to buy: smashbox.com & select Shoppers Drug Mart locations
A very nice mascara. The brush is essentially taken from the original "DiorShow", which many brands have done. Regardless, the formulation to this is totally different. It has a much wetter formulation as compared to the DiorShow. Which is nice because it doesn't dry out nearly as fast. Gives good length and volume without being clumpy. I find it isn't AS dark as I would like it to be, but other than that I do really like it.
Eye Brightening Mascara
Where to Buy: smashbox.com & select Shoppers Drug Mart locations
This is one that I really enjoy. Now this swatch photo isn't the best because this tube is on it's way out and doesn't have much life left in it, but I still wanted to talk about this mascara because of it's awesome benefits. So it has very small blue particles inside that actually help make the whites of your eyes look brighter, giving you a more awake look. I doesn't do much for length, and it's mild volume. It's more of a natural look with the brightening effects of the blue particles.
Cover Girl
Bombshell Mascara
Where to Buy: DO NOT BUY THIS MASCARA-VILLE
Okay..now that I got that off my chest. I have never been a fan of Cover Girl, ever since they made me look like a pumpkin on my first day of high school, which is scaring for a kid. This thing just reminded me why I wasn't a fan. So basically you are supposed to take the first wand and do "step 1" which honestly didn't turn out that bad. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. A little too clumpy/thick for my tastes. However the item that really "takes the cake" is the top coat thing for "step 2". Now first off, you pull this out and give it a nice wiff...mmm Tar...I knew I was in trouble. I slopply put this on because the second is got near my eye, the fumes off the brush made my eyes tear. I couldn't even get a decent shot because it was stinging my eye so bad that I kept blinking. UGH, just why did someone think this was a good idea...okay rant over...god that could have been a post on it's own :/
Until next time,
